Love List

About this picture

Inspired by one of my contacts, this is my "love list". As she puts it, I had to "define what I love, but doing so void of any connection / relationship to anyone I know. Hopefully this strips away all the noise until you're faced with what your preferences, interests and loves truly are, without any outside influence." I think I may have cheated a teensy bit on those rules, but, here's my list - accompained by a mosaic of photos that in some way illustrate it. And not surprisingly, I found them all here in my flickr photostream.... :) So without further ado, I love: • Travel – especially the people you meet when you’re far from home. It never fails to remind you that deep down inside, we’re all the same. • The feeling of satisfaction that comes with a job well done. • Music – but most notably, that of John Mayer, Tina Dico, Sting, Amos Lee and Coldplay. • The company of good friends that “get” you. • Playing with techno gadgetry (although it can also be very frustrating at times). • Very Sexy perfume by Victoria’s Secret. • Heart shaped things. • Solitude, and the not unwelcome sense of beautiful melancholy it can sometimes bring (occasionally accompanied by the music of any of the above noted musicians). • When Celine Dion hits the high note near the end of “All By Myself” (and I’m not even a Celine fan!) • Roger Daltrey’s quintessential primal rock god scream in “We Don’t Get Fooled Again”. One of the most perfect moments in all of recorded rock music. • Everything about Italy. • Browsing in the Apple Store. • The idea of living life as simply and needlessly as possible – although admittedly, it’s hard to put into practice. • Mist coming off a northern lake in the early hours of the morning. • Feeling the warmth of the sun upon your skin. • Nova Scotia (where I was born), but more specifically, the raw and rugged beauty of Cape Breton Island. • The thought that everything happens for a reason, and there are no mistakes in life. • Picnics. • The sense of calm I have when my house is clean and organized, and everything is in its place (I think I may experience this about once a year, at best….) • Squinting your eyes to look at the lights on the Christmas tree. • Positive feedback from people whose opinion I respect and admire, and from perfect strangers alike. • Summer. • The natural high and feeling of invincibility that comes with physical exercise, such as after a long run (or even a short one!), or a yoga class. • Canada. • The warm buzz you get from that first glass of wine – enjoyed even more if you’re sitting outside on a deck on a warm summer evening. • Movies that leave an impact on you that can linger for days. • The courtyard of the Louvre (Paris) at night. • Driving in the car with the windows down and the volume up. • Facing a fear and walking through it. • The lonely and haunting call of a loon. • Costco. • Holding hands. • Watching an exciting sporting event with a crowd. • Spending sunny and crisp fall days outside, then going home in the evening and making comfort food (like chili or stew) for dinner. • Road trips. • Real (wood burning) fireplaces. • To coin a phrase from one of the flickr groups I belong to, looking for, and finding, the “magic in the mundane”. • Looking at my dear departed maternal grandmother’s wedding band upon my finger, and being reminded that those we love never truly leave us.
